Barrie Patrick Hastings

Died: 05 Feb 2025, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

 

HASTINGS, Barrie Patrick - 81, of Liverpool, Nova Scotia, died at the QEII Hospital in Halifax February 5, 2025, after a short battle with cancer.

 

Born in England, Barrie was a son of the late Robert “Bob” and Ethel (Haulkham) Hastings.

 

After the war ended, they moved to a farm in Knowlton Quebec, where his father was from. Barrie later joined the Canadian Navy, a career that enabled him to see many different places and experience a variety of adventures. Following his career in the Navy, Barrie settled into working at Bowater Mersey Paper Company as a Stationary Engineer until his retirement.

 

Barrie enjoyed carving and painting his folk art, spending time at his trailer, gardening, bee keeping and watching Blue Jays baseball. As a Freemason, Barrie was a member of Prince of Wales-Zetland Lodge No. #29; A.F.&A.M. in Milton, NS. He and his wife Kathryn were both recognised for their efforts volunteering with the Special Olympics bowling program.

 

Barrie is survived by his son Blaine (Shannon), stepchildren Leslie Cosby (Anne Wentzel) and Joanne (Rob) Klatt and a very special lady who supported him to the end, Lillian Hiltz.

 

Besides his parents, Barrie was predeceased by his wife, Kathryn.

 

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool, NS. A graveside funeral service will be held 9:30am Saturday July 19, 2025, at Pine Grove Cemetery in Cherry Hill, NS. Outdoor gathering to follow at 1:00 at 567 Main Street, Liverpool. Bring a lawn chair if possible. If making a memorial donation, please provide it to Lunenburg Queens Special Olympics. Online condolences may be made below.
