DUNN, Leonard W. - Musquodoboit Harbour, passed away quietly on October 18, 2007, in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital, after a mercifully short battle with lung cancer. Born on December 9, 1927 in Old Harry, Magdalen Islands, Que., Len was a son of the late Archibald Winslow and Minnie (Chennell) Dunn. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marion (Bette) (Rowlings); daughter, Deborah (Gary Jennex), Oyster Pond, and their children Adam (Amber), Brian and Mary Elizabeth; daughter, Cindy (Jim Graham), Oyster Pond, and their children James (Theresa), Laura and Bronwen; son, Christopher (Christine Slade), Sharon, Ont., and their children Brenda, John and Jeffrey; son, Robert, Calgary, Alta., and his daughter Jessica; sister, Fannie Inkpen, Enfield; brothers, Waldron and Lawrence, Elmsdale; many nieces and nephews. Len was predeceased by his youngest son, John Fulton (1963-1982), and by his brothers, James, Aubrey, John and Rupert. Len served in the Royal Canadian Navy from from 1946-1963 and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He then worked as a linesman for Maritime Tel and Tel until the family moved to Sarnia, Ont., where he attended night school and became a certified electrician. Returning to Nova Scotia, he served as Business Agent for I.B.E.W., Local 625 from 1969-1976. He then joined the staff at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital in Musquodoboit Harbour as Electrical Maintenance personnel in 1976 until his retirement in 1992. Len was a member of Ashlar Masonic Lodge No. 107 and served as Worshipful Master in 1975 and 1977. He was Grand Steward of the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia in 1985. He joined Scotia Chapter No. 49 Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Patron in 1978, 1980 and 1991. He was a member of First United Church, Musquodoboit Harbour. At Len's request, there will be no funeral. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Rowlings Funeral Home in Musquodoboit Harbour, where the family will be present from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, to receive family and friends. At 2 p.m., prayers will be led by Rev. Bradley Ford of First United Church, followed by a private family interment. Family flowers only, but if desired, donations in Len's memory to Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital in Musquodoboit Harbour would be appreciated.
