MORNEAU, John Edward (Jack) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Morneau peacefully at home surrounded by family.

Born in Windsor, ON to Florence and John David Morneau, the eldest of his three younger siblings Sally, Joe (Jane), and Joan. During his late teens, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War on the destroyer HMCS Qu'Appelle in the North Atlantic. Excelling in sports, he played for the Windsor Rockets football team before moving to Ottawa to play for the Ottawa Rough Riders for two seasons, winning the CFL Grey Cup in 1951. He made a career in the Federal Government including a stint as the "Queen's Printer."

His proudest achievement was his family. Married to Barbara Clare Guillet for 72 years, father to Kathryn, John (Lynn), Chris (Ann), Paul (Alan), grandfather to Lucas (Chelsea), Jordan, Sam (Karina), Giovanni, Catherine, Justin, and great-grandfather to Cordelia.

As an avid sportsman, he was a passionate golfer and enjoyed biking, once cycling from Ottawa to Windsor with his youngest son Paul. He enjoyed watching sports, reading, playing Sudoku, and family BBQs.

He will be remembered for his courage, independence, unwavering support, and love. He was a champion, a true patriot, and a devoted family man.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Memorial Capital Gardens in June – details to be confirmed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any organizations in support of veterans or United24 in support of Ukraine. (The Ottawa Citizen 08 Mar 2025)
