SMITH, Barry - Age 82 , of Stokes Bay, Ont., passed away December 7, 2014, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Barry was born in Stokes Bay, Ont. He was a son of Malcolm and Jeanne Smith. He served 21 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. After retiring from the service in 1972, he started his own company, writing technical handbooks. He then worked for DND in Ottawa before retiring to Kitchener, Ont. in 1985. At the time of his sudden death, he resided with his wife, Linda, in Halifax. He enjoyed golfing, reading, playing the keyboard and especially took pleasure in socializing with family and friends. Barry is survived by his wife, Linda (Pike); son, James Smith (Elspeth Kinney) of Halifax; and daughters, Patricia Ouellette of Lower Sackville, and Joan (Marc) Fournier of Dieppe, N.B. Also survived by his brother, Bruce Smith of Woodstock, Ont., many nieces and nephews, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, mother, sister, Peggy Stover and grandson, David Smith. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of his life will follow at a later date.
