Died: 16 Oct 2017, Lunenburg, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia, Canada

 

SWIM, Minard George (Buddy) - age 92 of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully in the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg on October 16, 2017. Born in Clark’s Harbour, February 7, 1925, he was a son of the late Clinton and Regina (Nickerson) Swim. Survived by his wife, Marie E. (Ross) Swim; daughter, Renee Swim; granddaughter, Kelly Frame; great-grandchildren, Irena and Belen Pettigant; sisters, Shirley Kelly, Gwen Redding; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Eleanor Baker. Buddy joined HMCS Victoriaville in November 1943 where he carried out convoy duties from New York, Newfoundland and Ireland. He joined the Hydrographic service in 1953 to 1956. From 1956-1964 he carried out mapping surveys on the Mackenzie River. In 1964 he transferred to the Bedford Institute of Oceanography, Dartmouth, as a surveyor on several coastguard ships and the Baffin, carrying out mapping surveys of the Arctic. He retired in 1990 to Bridgewater. A very special thanks to the staff of the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital for their compassion and exceptional care of Dad. At Buddy’s request, there will be no service. Cremation and arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg.
