In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CHAMUT, Paul - It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of Paul Andrew Chamut on March 10, 2025, a dearly loved Son, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, Brother, and Friend.
Paul "Buffalo" "Uncle Buck" was born on April 04, 1950, in Thunder Bay, ON.
Paul had a very vibrant, fun, and cheerful personality, He could light up any room with his wit, charm, jokes, and mischievous laughter. He was an instant friend from the time you met him. He could always add humor to any situation even in the most difficult or challenging times. Paul was a very genuine and caring soul he loved making others happy and smile.
His outlook on life was "Don't sweat the small stuff" and" watch your attitude".
Paul attended Oliver Road Elementary Public School. As a child he spent hours at Grandpa Chamut's farm helping with all the farm animals and running through the fields on Morgan Road. At the early age of eighteen he joined the Navy and travelled to various places, two of his favorites being Australia and Alaska. He loved bringing gifts back for family and friends. Upon returning rom the Navy Paul began working in the mining industry in the early seventies for Pickle Crow mine and then Dauphin Manitoba mine.
Paul loved fishing and always had a story to tell about the" BIG ONE" that got away or the picture that the camera never worked for. Paul's favorite fishing places were Gillard and McGinnis Lake where he spent hours with his lifelong companion Billy, they spent 40 years making memories there as well as multiple other lakes fishing their secret spots. He had a passion for playing darts and became a very skilled, talented, and competitive dart player with the Moose Lodge winning multiple championships as an individual player and along with his team. He was a true Harley-Davidson motorcycle enthusiast never missing a chance to ride with his pack The Three Musketeers Buffalo, Buffoonzio and Bubblinski. He enjoyed playing cribbage and many different card games with family and friends somehow always managing to have an Ace or winning card "but never cheating."
Christmas was always a special and favorite time of year gathering at the Abbott family home. Paul could not wait for his favorite part, the trifle sometimes even fighting over it with Micheal. Once Paul could no longer make the trips out to South Gilles for dinner Stephen always made it a point to bring him Christmas dinner with his favorite trifle and visit. His two beautiful stepdaughters Kathy and Karen were a huge part of his life and held a special place in his heart along with his niece Sarah (Seagull).
Paul dearly valued and cherished his remarkably close and special relationship with his mother and loved all the time they were able to spend talking and laughing together during her visits home to Thunder Bay from Brighton, ON.
Paul unfortunately met a serious back injury in his early thirties during his mining career which eventually led him to a life of severe mobility issues.
He spent his last years at Sister Leila Greco Apartments with his beloved dog and best friend Shree. Paul did not let his injury hold him back, he lived each day to the fullest making sure to get mobile visiting everyone touring around with Shree in her basket on his scooter. Paul always looked forward to the visits from one of his favorite dog pals Ryder. Everyone knew and loved Paul at Sister Leila Greco, they became like a second family for him.
The family would like to give an incredibly special thank you to all the staff, nurses, and support workers at Sister Leila Greco for the friendship care and love they gave to Paul. On Tuesday, January 28, 2025 Paul put on the biggest and best party of his life "Paul's Country Hoedown" having an amazing day with all that could attend.
