James Edward (Jim) Riggs

RIGGS, James Edward (Jim) - Jim, a devoted man of faith, a lover of words, and a connoisseur of cookies, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on March 3, 2025 at the young age of 90. His life was a testament to kindness, wisdom, and unwavering faith, touching the hearts of all who knew him.

 

Born on January 14, 1935 in New Waterford, Jim lived a life filled with purpose and love. Jim spent 23 years in the Navy followed by 10 years with Purolator Courier. Jim retired to New Waterford where he spent the remainder of his years as a family man. His days were often spent with a crossword puzzle, prayer beads or cookie and cup of tea in hand.

 

Jim's unwavering belief in God guided him through life's challenges, and his gentle spirit uplifted those who needed encouragement.

 

Jim was the sole remaining member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his mother Veronica, his father Edward, brothers Anthony and Joseph and sisters Alice, Catherine and Elizabeth.

 

Jim is survived by Genevieve Timmons and 4 bonus daughters, Robin Timmons, Paula (Tom) McCarthy, Amber (Jered) Hoskins and Jenny (Sonny) Piche along with 10 very special grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Jim is also directly survived by no fewer than 15 nieces and nephews and a myriad of grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

 

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, March 11 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with father Godwin Obike officiating. A reception will follow at McLellan Funeral Home, 3188 Plummer Avenue, New Waterford.

 

Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery, at a later date. (The Cape Breton Post 08 Mar 2025)
