In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
KEATS, Edgar Wallace - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dad, Edgar Wallace Keats, at home on January 27, 2025. As was his custom, Dad got up that morning and after stepping out on the deck to admire his view of the lake, took a sip of his tea and quietly slipped away.
Dad was born on February 8, 1932 in St. John's, NL to the late Hubert and Gertrude (Goobie) Keats. He was the youngest of, and previously deceased by, his siblings Bill, Ruth, Bruce, Fred, and Helen. At the young age of 17 Dad left home to embark on a career in the Royal Canadian Navy. It was in Dartmouth that he met our Mom Blanche Hall, and they were married in 1954. They settled in Dartmouth where Dad was stationed at CFB Shearwater. We six children soon filled the home in quick succession. Following his retirement from the Navy, they relocated to Bear River and then on to Digby as Mom pursued her career with the Provincial Government.
In 2010 they returned to Dartmouth and settled into the vibrant social life of the 60+ crowd at 20 Freshwater Trail, where they quickly embraced retirement to the fullest. Mom and dad loved travelling to see family in Newfoundland and grandchildren in Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, which dad continued to do after Mom's passing in 2019. Dad was devoted to Mom and did everything he could for her during her final years. Dad loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and is remembered fondly for his generous spirit, his quick wit and his amazing knowledge of history and current events. Left to mourn his passing are his children, Hubert (Janet), Doris Taylor (Keith), Charlene, Nancy Curlew (Merrill), Suellen Pineau (Stephen), James (Heather), and grandchildren Chrissy, Sarah, Kimberley, Lynsey, Tyler, Bethany, Adam, Ashleigh, Aaron, Jillian, Maggie, Ben, and Liam, as well as his 16 great-grandchildren.
As per Dad's request there will be no funeral or visitation. A private celebration of the lives of both Mom and Dad will be held at a later date. As his granddaughter Ashleigh jokingly noted, he just couldn't do another four years of Trump.
A final note of thanks, we the children of Edgar and Blanche want to express on our parents' behalf our heartfelt appreciation to their 20 Freshwater Trail family for the many years of love and friendship.
