In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MERKOWSKY, George - "If there be any truer measure of a man than what he does, it must be what he gives " It is with great sadness that the children of George Merkowsky announce his passing to God after a brief but intense illness on Thursday, September 21, 2006. George was a man who gave many gifts to those around him. No gift was greater then the love he gave to his family and friends. He taught us to laugh and find the positive in every day. He saw the world as it was and tried to instill in all of us that there was always more good then bad. His path in life was directed by the motto "one day at a time " and would repeat that statement to us throughout the course of our lives. He was always humbled by the devotion and respect that others showed him. He never took a friend for granted and believed that kindness would always be returned. He had an extremely deep faith in God that eased the sorrow he felt on the loss of his wife of 56 years and guided him daily over his life. George moved forward appreciating, enjoying and acknowledging the many blessings in his life. George had a passion for fishing and spent countless hours on the lakes of Northern Saskatchewan. He loved a good meal and a card game and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. He will always be remembered and admired as a good and kind man. George is survived by his loving family: his six children, Gail (Blake) Cameron of Edmonton, Gary (Nancy) Merkowsky of Regina, Donna (Bob) MacLean of Edmonton, Dan (Jan) Merkowsky of St. Albert, Kathy Merkowsky of Prince Albert, Sandy (Mark) Apshkrum of Prince Albert; his ten grandchildren, Erika, Krista, Geoff, Cale, Christine, Jennifer, Kyle, Ryan, Layne and Brooke; his greatgrandchild, Owen; his brother, Herman (Evelyn) Merkowsky; his sister, Madeline Edge. He was predeceased by: his wife, Kaye; his parents, Alexander and Regina Merkowsky; his three brothers, Joe, Tony and John Merkowsky; his sister, Anne Stinson. We welcome all to a celebration of his life at the prayer service that will be held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 24 from River Park Memorial Chapel, 301 River Street West. Mr. Brian Clarke will officiate and the Funeral Mass that will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 25 from St. Mark Roman Catholic Church, 589-9th Street East by Father Clifford Tremblay.
