WRIGHT, William Douglas (Doug) - who was in his 90th year, is remembered by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn and brother, Harold, his first wife, Sheila, and their son, Daniel. He is survived by his children, Ileana, Krista, Kenneth, Brett and by his former wife, Judith and their daughter Shaylyn as well as his brother Donald. His family includes 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews as well as their children. Doug was a seafarer at heart, serving as a submariner in the navy and then in the private sector as Chief Marine Engineer in the north with Canmar, in the east with Irving Shipping and overseas under other flags. He later worked in Victoria on the oceanographic research vessel, the Endeavour, and finally with DND in Esquimalt. He briefly taught Marine Engineering at Camosun but never strayed far from his love of ocean adventure which he continued with in retirement, sailing jaunts from West Shore Marina and Oak Bay Marina as part of the Turkey Head Sailing Association. Doug volunteered with youth sailing programs at DND, with Oak Bay Search and Rescue, at the Maritime and Royal BC Museum and was a member of the Submariners Association for many years. A family celebration of life will be held in Abbotsford. (The Victoria Times Colonist 08 Feb 2025)
