In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
McINTYRE, Archibald Augustine (Arch) - of Windsor, ON, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Arch was born on September 3, 1938, in Glace Bay, NS, and carried his Cape Breton roots with him throughout his life. Arch was an only child to John and Emily McIntyre, who became a loving big brother to Mike, Mary, Margie, Elizabeth, and Hughie McIntyre. Arch was predeceased by his son, Kevin McIntyre. He leaves behind his devoted wife of many years, Emilie McIntyre, his daughters Cheryl Brouse (Ottawa) and Wendy McIntyre (Perth, Australia), and a legacy of love in his grandchildren: Sean, Amanda (Andrew), and Brock Murray (Faith), Alex and Barry (Ashley) Brouse (all of Ottawa), as well as Robert (Angie), Gil (Kaleigh), Kyle, and Ashley McIntyre (all of Windsor). Arch was also a cherished great-grandfather to fifteen great-grandchildren (and counting!), a proud uncle to Suzanne Grouette (Ted) and Norma (Ace) Smith and a brother-in-law to Len Grouette. Arch served his country with honour in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1958 to 1977, including the privilege of serving twice at CFS Alert. After his military service, Arch continued to serve his community through his career with the Commissionaires and the Royal Canadian Legion, where he made many lifelong friends. A man of sharp wit and humour, Arch had a mind like no other. He tackled the daily crossword puzzle in ink and devoured books on true crime and current events. Though Windsor became his beloved home, Arch had an insatiable love for travel—whether it was a high-stakes trip to Las Vegas, a whirlwind ocean cruise, or a caravan around the continent of Australia. He was a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs (maybe they'll win this year). More than anything, Arch was a family man through and through. His greatest pride was the time he spent surrounded by his loved ones, sharing stories, laughter, and memories that will live on in those who knew him. He lived a full and vibrant life, enriched by the people and places he cherished most. The family would like to thank Paige, Michelle, Louisa and Dr. Malus of Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus for their support.
At Arch's request, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to the Rotary Foundation of Canada in Arch's memory. Arrangements entrusted to Families First Funeral Home 1065 Lauzon Rd, East Windsor,519-969-5841. (The Windsor Star 21 Dec 2024)
