In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WESNER, David Edward - It is with great sadness that we announce that in the early morning of Sunday, May 10, Dave quietly and peacefully passed away at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital at the age of 68. Dave was born at Vita, Mb. to Joe and Olga Wesner. He grew up on the family farm in Sprague, MB. until 1958; at the ripe age of 17 he left for Victoria, BC where he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. It was here that Dave met his wife, Doreen Beattie, and they married December 23, 1960. Dave was father to Tracy and Tony, but later became Poppy" to 5 grandchildren. After 25 years in the Navy, he retired and went to work at Queen Alexandra Hospital for sick children until a heart attack forced him into early retirement. He spent most of his days pursuing his one true passion-vegetable gardening, and he would challenge you to find even one weed in his immaculately kept garden. He even took up painting as a hobby and became increasingly talented at it. Dave was predeceased by his parents, Joe and Olga Wesner and is survived by his wife of 48 years, Doreen, daughter Tracy (Jim) Hebel and her family, Kristie (Tim) Toews, Kayleigh and Jacob, son Tony (Glenda) and his family, David and Brooke. He is also survived by one brother, Gary (Olga) Wesner and two sisters Ruth (George) Bartinski and Donna (Eldon) Kerbes. Also mourning his loss are his sisterin-law Bette (John) Redfern and brother-inlaw Jim (June) Beattie, and numerous nieces and nephews. We will miss his guidance and love, but mostly his sense of humour, which he kept right up until the end. A Celebration of Dave's life will be held at Deerwood Estates Community Club, 3950 Biggs Road, Nanaimo, BC on Friday May 15, 2009 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice in Dave's memory would be appreciated.
