McCRACKEN, Gerald Henderson (Gerry) - It is with heavy hearts, the family of Gerald "Gerry" Henderson McCracken, CD QC, of Rothesay, beloved husband of Amy (Beeksma) McCracken, announce his passing on Monday, December 30, 2024. Born on July 5, 1942, in Saint John, he was the son of the late George and Muriel (Henderson) McCracken. Gerry attended Carleton University, graduating with an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa. He joined the Naval Reserve, served in Germany and retired after serving many years as Capt(N). Gerry and Amy met and lived in Ottawa, where they started a family. Gerry was a Prosecutor for the Department of Justice with the Federal Government, where he continued his career in Toronto before retiring and returning to Rothesay in 1994. After a short retirement, Gerry began to work with Lutz Longstaff in Hampton before formally retiring. He was a member of the Board of Rothesay Netherwood School, and very involved with St. Paul's Church where he was a member of the choir. Gerry enjoyed skiing, sailing, tennis, squash, hockey, and had a genuine love for the outdoors. Gerry is survived by loving wife, Amy; his children, David of Rothesay, Kathryn McCracken-Doull (Doug) of Dieppe, NB, and Leslie Simson (Hugh) of Canmore, AB; grandchildren, Aislin, Grant, and Dahlia Simson, and Joe Doull; brother, Bill McCracken (Beth) of Vancouver, BC; sister, Jane McLennan (Bruce) of Ottawa, ON; and his dog, Lucy; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. Gerry will be missed by his family and many friends. The family wishes a heartfelt thanks to all of the medical staff, doctors and support workers that Gerry received care from during his illness. Arrangements are under the care of Kennebecasis Community Funeral Home, 152 Pettingill Road, Quispamsis (506-849-2119). A Celebration of Gerry's life will take place at a later date. For those who wish, donations in memory of Gerry can be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church in Rothesay or the Alzheimer Society of NB. (The Globe and Mail 04 Jan 2025)
