In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
MacDOUGALL, Duncan Alexander - 83, of Abbotsford, BC, passed away peacefully at Holmberg House on August 5th, 2023. His daughter Blair was by his side.
Duncan, the youngest of six, was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on October 6th, 1939, to George and Nora MacDougall. Duncan spent his youth in Vancouver and Penticton where he developed a passion for playing basketball and baseball.
After high school, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Halifax, where he continued to enjoy his favorite sport, basketball. He later pursued his education at UBC and earned his Bachelor of Education degree.
This led him to a 32-year career as a teacher and coach in the Abbotsford school district where he mentored many young athletes on the court. A career highlight was the time he spent coaching the Pantherettes and building a basketball dynasty at Abby Senior.
In his retirement, Duncan loved to travel and explore with his late wife Anne and their beloved dog Cody, who accompanied him on many RV trips across Canada and the USA. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was appreciative of his siblings, nieces and nephews. He was especially proud of his grandchildren, Mira, Tarik, and Indigo.
Duncan touched many lives with his kindness and compassion and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Duncan was predeceased by his wife Anne, his parents George and Nora MacDougall, his brother George MacDougall and his sisters Nora Reed and Charlotte Howard.
He is survived by his daughter Blair Khosla (Deven), his sister Patricia Campbell, his brother Bill MacDougall, his grandchildren Mira, Tarik, and Indigo, and many nieces and nephews.
