WARD, Violet Florence (née SHERK) - WWII Veteran - WRCNS Justice of the Peace (1974-1989) It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our Mother. She will be deeply missed by her children David, Patricia, Paul, Susan and Jeffrey and by her daughter-in-law Beverly, and her seven grandchildren: Lisa, Christopher, Chris, Jackie, Michael, Sean and Daniel. Our mother was a strong, independent woman who raised five children on her own. Some of the major milestones that characterize her dedicated spirit have included being appointed one of the first female Justices of the Peace in Ontario. As well, she took great pride in her service in the Navy as a WREN during WWII. In the early 70's, she was the Commanding Officer of the Isabel MCNeil Wrenette Corps at HMCS York. She will also be remembered for her mastery in the art of stitchery, something that brought her much joy. We would like to thank all the staff at Nisbet Lodge for the care she received. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at later date. A private interment is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or to Nisbet Lodge Nursing Home. Condolences or memories can be shared by email at violetward5@gmail.com Gone but never forgotten. We will always love you mom. (The Toronto Star 21 Apr 2012)
