In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CARMICHAEL, Robert (Hoagy) - Robert Carmichael was born on June 5, 1928 in White Rock BC to parents Thomas and Ella. He was youngest of 4 children. Two sisters Ariel and Margie and one brother Bill.
Prince George became home during his younger years and then the moved back to White rock. It was there that he met our mother Dorothy Mitchell. They fell in love and were married in Aldergrove in 1949. Hoagy (as he was better known) joined the Navy and became a telegraph operator.
He rejoined his wife and started a family. Wendy, Bob, Vicki and then came the cutest and most spoiled little Shelley.
Hoagy worked on the railroad for many years in different locations across central BC. They settled in a beautiful the little town of Birch Island where he built us a house, where neighbours became family and the town became our home.
He was a great role model, a fantastic father and a good friend to all. Dot and Hoagy loved the community and were very active in so many activities and organizations. Dad was involved with Boy scouts, baseball, Lions club, BI recreation commission, ambulance, curling club and so many other things.
I think his most favourite things to do with his family were grouse hunting, camping and fishing with friends and family at Hole in the Wall.
He worked as the Clearwater school district superintendent manager for many years and retired at 55 . He then followed his dream and bought himself a Fish Camp on Wavey Lake on Highway 24. He took great pride in the log cabins he built and the long-lasting friendships he made with returning guests year after year. We as a family have many fond memories of summers spent camping and fishing together there. I believe those were the happiest times for our dad.
He moved Kamloops and bought himself an old home downtown that he restored and made his own. He loved gardening and was also an active member in the Kamloops Bridge club and enjoyed playing crib as well.
He lived a full and happy life.
He will be missed. (Drake Cremation and Funeral Services)
