O'BRIEN, John Thomas - was a member of the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion that fought for the Spanish Republic in 1937-1938.  Arrived in Spain via Setcases on September 24, 1937; Trained with the 2nd BN of Instruction; Served with the XV BDE, Mackenzie-Papineau BN; Tarazona; Returned to Canada February 3, 1939, on the Duchess of Richmond. He served in the Second World War as a Stoker in the RCNVR.  His brother Joseph was with the Black Watch and was taken prisoner at the Dieppe Raid. (Source: Find-a-Grave)
