HAUGHN, Quentin Ainley - Of Halifax, died Monday, September 22, 2008, at home. Born in Riverport, he was a son of the late Aubrey John and Sadie (Wentzel) Haughn. He attended Riverport Common School, Lunenburg County Academy, Maritime Business College, Halifax. After serving six years in the RCNVR 1939-45, being discharged as a Chief Petty Officer (Writer), he articled with the firm of Crowell Balcolm & Co. becoming a Chartered Accountant in 1950. He retired from Thorne Riddell & Co. in 1984. As an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Halifax, he fulfilled various duties, served many years as treasurer, for almost 40 years on local and synodical committees, including the executive board of the Eastern Canada Synod. His home church was St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Rose Bay. He was a member of the North British Society, the Fisheries Museum, Lunenburg, and was active in the Progressive Conservative Party. He spent 30 summers at the family cottage, Indian Point, Glen Haven. Activities there were gardening, swimming, boating, fishing, cruising the islands, beachcombing and wharf building. He traveled extensively to Great Britain, Europe, the Middle East, Egypt and South America. Many vacations were spent on family camping trips to Eastern U.S. and Canada. Other interests were stamp collecting, politics, history and genealogy. Surviving are his wife, the former Annie Mary Lorraine of Onslow; sons, John Purley Haughn of Dartmouth and wife Noraysi Dell Verde, Cuba; son, George Wentzel Haughn, wife Ljerka (Kunst) and children Heather and Hannah of North Vancouver; daughter, Mary Anne Haughn of Halifax. He will be cremated under the direction of Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home with burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 26, Pastor Kimber McNabb officiating. No flowers by request.
