Died: 29 May 2024, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

 

GINGRAS, Roger Joseph - Passed away May 29, 2024 in Edmonton, Alberta. Born in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Roger was the son of the late Alfred and Francois Gingras (Nee Blanchette). He is survived by his son Robert (Lisa), granddaughter Harley (Austin), grandson Jakob (Natasha) and great-grandson Walker.

 

Roger was predeceased by his loving wife of over 57 years Mimi and his son Pierre.

 

Roger joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1955, retiring in 1984. He then served another 5 years in the Naval Reserve. Roger was an active member of the Bedford community serving on the Bedford Lions Club for 25 years. During that time he was awarded the Melvin Jones Award for his outstanding dedication to his community and in 1992 was chosen as volunteer of the year for Bedford. Roger coached minor football for 25 years, was a member of the volunteer fire department and was involved with minor hockey as a coach and referee. In 1994 he joined a small group of retirees to repair and refurbish furniture with the money raised donated to the charities in and around the Bedford, Sackville and Halifax communities.

 

Roger will be greatly missed. Please join us on June 12th a funeral being held at the Brookside Cemetery with a celebration of life following at the Bedford Legion from 130 to 430. (TK Barnard Funeral Home)
