In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
JANSEN, Otto Karl - passed away in the early morning hours of September 22, 2022, at the Royal Jubilee Hospice Unit. Karl was born on August 26, 1936 to Otto & Jean (nee McMaster) Jansen in Vancouver, BC. Karl is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia; his three sons, Len, Ron, and Rob as well as three stepdaughters, Geri, Karen and Linda, and grandchildren Shawn, Collin, Matthew, Thomas, Jay, Jackie, Megan and Justin, as well as five great-grandchildren: Micah, Macayla, Jeremiah, Jonah, and Dominic. Karl was predeceased by his parents, brothers Conrad and Jim, sisters Tina, Ann, Jenny, Rita, Lena, and grandson Brandon. Karl is survived by sisters, Donna Mae and Andrea as well as many nieces and nephews, including honorary family member, Patsy.
Karl joined Royal Canadian Navy at the age of 18 attaining Petty Officer 2nd Class status with 30 years of service. He loved the comradeship and visiting many foreign places making many friends along the way. Once retired from the Navy, Karl worked at the Gorge Road Hospital and Rocky Point as a security guard mostly chatting to everyone. In Karl’s younger years, he enjoyed many sports including boxing, diving, softball and many others. He enjoyed golf and eating at many different restaurants as well as gardening. He was a die-hard Vancouver Canuck fan even in their worst years. Karl also enjoyed RVing in his retirement years and cruising. Karl was a very social guy who would talk to anyone.
