Born: 25 Jun 1947, Glenboro, Manitoba

Died: 22 Apr 2024

McKINNON, Ronald Gordon (Ron) - Age 76, passed away at home on April 22, 2024. He is survived by his wife Marion (Henson) McKinnon; son Gordon (Ezilmar) McKinnon; daughter Christine McKinnon (Allan Coley); grandchildren Michael and Natasha; also by several nieces and nephews.

Born in Glenboro, MB, Ron grew up in Winnipeg, living two streets over from Winnipeg Stadium, home of his beloved Winnipeg Blue Bombers football team.

At age 17, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and headed to HMCS Cornwallis for his basic training. Several months later, stationed in Halifax, he met his future wife, Marion, at the Olympic Gardens dance hall. They married in June 1967 and lived their family life in Beaver Bank, NS, in the home they built in 1976.

Ron served as a Hull Technician on several ships and other postings included the NBCD school where he received an award as Instructor of the Year.

Growing up Ron enjoyed playing on baseball, football and hockey teams. As an adult he continued his love of sports as a devoted football and hockey fan, his favorite team being the Boston Bruins.

His love of animals was evident in the pleasure he received interacting with each of his three dogs. The fact that they could accompany the family on weekend camping trips was very important to him.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A time for family and friends to gather and celebrate Ron’s life will be held from Church of the Good Shepherd in Beaver Bank on Friday, May 3rd, 2024 at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope for Wildlife or the Canadian Breast Cancer Research Foundation. (Arbor Memorial)
