NICKERSON, Douglas C. - It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Doug Nickerson at Camp Hill hospital, Halifax, on April 21, 2024. A wonderful father. Born January 30, 1930 in Brooklyn, Queens county, NS, Doug was the eldest of seven children born to the late Dexter and Lulu (Butler) Nickerson. Doug grew up fast helping his struggling family through the 1940s by leaving school after getting a grade eight education to work with his hands logging. Doug joined the navy becoming a “Chief Engineer” and while living in Halifax married his loving departed, lifelong partner Vernita “Nita” (Hines) with whom he raised six children. Doug lived for his children but also enjoyed hunting. He retired after 25 years in the navy 20 years as a “ship repair coordinator” and was a Mt Uniacke legion member. He was especially proud of his work building and maintaining “Bell Park” in Mt. Uniacke. He also had a love for the annual family hikes and gatherings.

Doug is survived by his sister, Carol (Larry) Newell , Cambridge, NS, daughters, Mary (John) Weir of Bedford, NS and Pam (Phillip) Davison of Ellershouse, NS and sons Ron (Jane) Nickerson of Bridgewater, NS, Glenn (Nancy) Nickerson of Sackville, NS, Paul (Janice) Nickerson of Sackville, NS. as well as 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
