HURLEY, Alma Walz - passed away peacefully in her 96th year on Wednesday, 23 May, 2001, after a long and fulfilled life. She is predeceased by her parents William and Josephine; her brothers, Bill, Norman and Frank and her sister, Margaret. Alma is survived by, and will be missed and lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, Susan, Bob (Kathy), Mick, Jim (Jane), Tom, Sheryle and Norman (Karen) her grandnieces and grandnephews, Shauna (Greg), Gregory (Theresa), Ted, Kristen (Alex), Carmen (Mike), Anna Marie, Billy, Kari Ann and Robbie; her sister-in-law, Ellen and brother-in-law, Michael, whose support in Almas later years contributed greatly to her quality of life and for which Alma was most appreciative. Alma was born on January 1, 1906 in Regina, SK and lived most of her life in Winnipeg. Alma studied music at the University of Chicago under the tutelage of Percy Granger and was a piano teacher for 59 years. Alma was a dedicated teacher and took pleasure in working with many students over the years. During 1943 to 1946 Alma served in the Canadian Navy (WRCNS). In 1991 Alma was made an Honourary Life Member of the Manitoba Registered Music Teachers Association. Almas loves in life included music, teaching music, travel, gardening and, foremost, her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews on whom she lavished much attention and love. We will miss you Alma. The family wishes to thank the staff of "The Waverley", the Home Care staff and LPNS, for their support and kindness in making her comfortable and content in the final months of her life. The memorial service, to be conducted by the Reverend Father G. Ward, will be held on Monday, May 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. A reception will follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra or to a charity of ones choice, in Alma s memory.
