GARDINER, Henry Aitken (Harry) - Halifax, formerly of Toronto and Welland, Ont., died July 17, 1998, in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Toronto, he was a son of the late Jack and Marianne (Tanner) Gardiner. He first came to Halifax during the Second World War, where he met and married his wife of 56 years, Grace. After serving in the naval fleet in the North Atlantic during the Second World War, he then served on the Halifax Fire Department, Toronto Transit Commission and London Life Insurance Company, from where he retired in 1981 as regional manager. He was an active Big Brother, Toastmaster, member of the Chiefs and Petty Officers Association and also a serving member of the Spiritual Assembly of the Bahais of Halifax and assistant to the auxiliary board. Surviving are his wife, Grace (Morton); daughter, Valerie Gardiner; sons, Allan, John, Paul, all currently residing in Nova Scotia; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by brother, Pat. No visitation by request. Private family burial. Memorial service 4 p.m. Tuesday in Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2032 Robie St. In lieu of flowers, donations to Big Brothers & Sisters or Halifax Adult Services Society, 3430 Prescott St. (The Chronicle-Herald/The Mail-Star page B3 20 Jul 1998)

 

Harry is buried in the Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, NS.
