Raised in Aubigny and Broadlands on the family homestead, Dad left to join the navy in 1943. Discharged in 1946, he worked in BC mines until acceptance in trade school for his welding certificate. He started out on the hydro dam project in Powerview, but was scooped up by the Abitibi Paper Company in Pine Falls where he worked for 36 years.

Dad served as President of the Union for several years, later working his way on to Abitibi’s management team.

Along his journey, Dad and Mom operated B n I Grocery Store; he served on the local school board, the Chamber of Commerce and as a volunteer firefighter. He was instrumental in the development of the seniors 55+ residence, Pineview Lodge.

Dad served in the militia rising to the rank of Regimental Sergeant Major in the Royal Canadian Engineers. He was an active member of the Legion where Dad and Mom made lifelong friends.

Dad’s proudest achievements were as a devoted member of the Knights of Columbus. Dad served three 4-year terms as Grand Knight in Pine Falls, District Deputy in Manitoba followed by State Deputy which took him travelling thru Canada and the US.

Dad and Mom enjoyed their retirement years as Snowbirds in Arizona and living at their summer home at Albert Beach. After Mom’s passing in 2007, Dad retuned to Pine Falls to live out his remaining years amongst friends and family.

Our family extends our heartfelt thanks to the staff in the Pine Falls Hospital for their kind and considerate care for Dad.

Cremation has taken place, and a private celebration and interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice. (The Winnipeg Free Press 04 May 2024)
