MacKENZIE, Alexander Ronald - Passed away on Sunday, March 17,2024 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital at age 88. As a teenager, he, along with his parents and sister emigrated from South Africa to Canada in 1952. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1955 where he went on to serve 30 years plus one day in the Canadian Armed Forces retiring in 1985. After his retirement from the military, he worked at IMP Group for a period and then at Litton Systems Canada Ltd. for several years until retiring from the work force. He then moved to Jordan Bay, NS, where he enjoyed the peacefulness of rural life, working around his property and observing nature's creatures great and small He served on the board of the Shearwater East Dartmouth Minor Hockey Association for several years. Dad loved sailing and owned a sailboat for many years. He belonged to the Dartmouth Yacht Club, the Shearwater Yacht Club and later to the Shelburne Yacht Club. He is survived by a sister, his former wife, Elizabeth; their four children and their spouses; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, plus a great-grandchild due on April 30 of this year. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial services. No flowers, no donations. His body has been cremated and his ashes will be dispersed upon the ocean. Thank you to the staff at Vancouver Place for the care they provided during his stay there and thank you to the nursing staff on 4N at Yarmouth Regional Hospital for the care they provided to Dad during final weeks.
