CARRIERE, Denis A. - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Denis (Danny) Albert Gerald Carriere, at the age of 89, at the St. Boniface Hospital.

Danny was predeceased by the love of his life Betty, his sons, Brian, David, Mike and grandson Shane. Danny will be greatly missed by his son Denis (Diane) and daughter Charlene (JR). He is survived by grandchildren, Celine (Colton), Brian Jr. (Bev), Robert (Peige), Eric, Lisa (Bryan), Michelle (Billy), Daniel (Sam), Rebecca (Josh), Cory and his great-grandchildren, Carver, Chloe, Cali, Madison, Greyson, Ari, and Banner. Danny will also be missed by his many family and close friends.

Danny was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba where he grew up with his brothers and sisters until he joined the Navy and took off to see the world. It was when he was stationed in Nova Scotia where he met Betty, they married, started a family, and moved back to Winnipeg in 1971 where they settled in Transcona. Danny retired from the Navy as a Warrant Officer, Naval Air Electronics and worked for Sears for a few years before he operated his own business Darthmouth TV and Hifi.

Danny was proud of his service in the Navy and loved to tell stories of his travels, but most of all he was proud of his family and was a strong supporter of their accomplishments. He shared his knowledge of electronics with his children and could fix most anything. Danny was a history buff always had a book on hand and loved watching history shows and most importantly his family genealogy, which he dated back to France in the 1600s.

The house was always busy, with gatherings and celebrations with family and friends, he always had a smile, his famous phrases were “untouched by human hands” or” I feel like a million bucks”. He enjoyed his fishing trips with his boys, golfing, and camping. He enjoyed the trips the family took when they were younger in the family station wagon. He was meticulous about documenting family celebrations and always made a point of recognizing these dates. Danny was a wonderful man who loved life, his family and he had a positive attitude no matter what the circumstances. Danny was one that could always be counted on, always there to help out, there was always room in the house for one more.

The family extends its deepest gratitude for the compassionate care and support of Dr. Synn and the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for taking care of Danny.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba in Denis Carriere’s name.

Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home & Cemetery, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (The Winnipeg Free Press 23 Ma 2024)
