RUHLOFF, Udo L. (Rudy) - It is with profound sadness and heartbreak that we announce Udo “Rudy” Ruhloff (82) passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hamilton, with his wife and five girls lovingly by his side. Hamilton is the city Rudy and his family made home when they immigrated from Germany. After his tenure with the Royal Canadian Navy, it is also where Rudy proudly served for thirty years as a police officer with the Hamilton Police Service, often recalling fond memories of his time with their chorus. Post retirement, Rudy enjoyed playing golf, crossword puzzles, happy hour, cooking, and sunning himself by the pool. His most favourite pastime of all was spending time with beloved friends and family – his family being his greatest accomplishment. Rudy is survived by his wonderful wife, Donna. He was a proud father to his girls, Kristine (late Greg), Sieglinde (Yannick), Deborah (Bruce), Stephanie, and Melissa (Darren); Opa to Shelby, Madelyn, Nicolas, Kristian, Emilie, Rachael, Annie, and Kate, and Uropa to Bodi. Rudy was brother to Gordon (late Anne) and the late Sieglinde Metts, and brother-in-law to the late Susan Hammond, the late Faye Mann, Janice Newman, Barbara Kisko, and Denise and Tom Brown, and “Uncle Rudy” to many nieces and nephews. Rudy was a lifelong friend of Kathy and the late Barney Gordon, Karen and the late Len Martin and his dinner party group. An exemplary man until the end, he will be missed dearly by those who were fortunate to know him.

The family thanks Dr. Jason Profetto for his continuous care as well as the healthcare professionals of CTU West Fourth Floor, specifically Dr. Kaitlyn Boese and the Palliative Care team.

A Celebration of Life will take place from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Hamilton Police Association located at 555 Upper Wellington Street. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society. (Circle of Life Burial and Cremation Centre Inc)
