PRETTE, Richard Allan Bedford (Dick), C.L.U. - passed away peacefully, at the Broadmead Lodge, surrounded by his family, at the age of 92. He was born in Ottawa, into a large, loving family, being the 8th of 10 children. He was one of the biggest babies born at Ottawa General, weighing 12lbs 8oz! Dick was predeceased by his father, Sargent Major Richard Prette, (MBE) & his mother, Mary Prette (Turner), brothers: Bev Prette & Jack Prette & sisters: Mary Forrester, Shirley Henderson, Joan Wells & Patricia Prette. He is survived by his sisters Ruth Bulpit, Millie Cutsey and Anne McKinney. Dick had a fond connection with a large number of nieces and nephews stretching out across the country and as far away as Australia. Dick's importance of family remained central to Dick's priorities and identity. He married his beloved wife Jean (Robertson) in 1953. Yes, they were married for almost 71 years! He also leaves his children: Vicki Waterman (Peter), Dave Prette (Cathy), James Prette (Liz), his 9 wonderful grandchildren: Kristie McDonald (Peter), Kim Paulo (Angelo), Ken Waterman (Catherine), Jessica Prette (Scott), Emery Prette (Matthew), Sam Prette (Paige), & Rebekah, Anna & Micheal Prette, and his 5 special great grandchildren: Kamila & Abby Paulo, Christina & Kaity Waterman, and Oscar Fitzgibbon. Dick spent his early life in Ottawa where he attended Glebe Collegiate. The family moved to Victoria in 1947 where he graduated from Victoria High School in 1950. He joined the Naval Reserve (HMCS Malahat) and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Dick worked for London Life Insurance Company for 35 years where he established life-long friends. He was a devout Christian and enjoyed attending many Faith denominations and volunteered for many para-church organizations. He and Jean faithfully served at Camp Pringle, Centennial United, Gordon Head United, Camps Farthest Out, & Young Life. Dick's family would like to thank the staff at Broadmead Lodge for the care he received over the past 4 years. Dick's Memorial Celebration will be on Friday, February 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Gateway Baptist Church, 898 Royal Oak Ave. Donations, in his name, can be made to: Precious Jewels Ministry: P.O.
