BENNER, Reginald Latchford (Reg) - was born on March 30, 1925, in Winnipeg, Manitoba and died peacefully on January 24, 2024, in Victoria, BC. Reg was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Isabel Benner. Reg served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII, participating in the Allied invasion into France on D-Day, landing at Juno Beach. Reg made over 30 return trips in the landing craft, carrying Canadian, British and American troops. Reg was awarded several medals, including the Legion of Honour, the highest French Order of Merit, for his service. After the war, Reg resumed his career with the Canadian Pacific Railway, living and working in Winnipeg, Medicine Hat, Calgary and Montreal. In 1988, Reg was invested as a Serving Member of the Order of St. John by the Governor General of Canada. Reg's career and life are a testament to the values of humility, hard work, and service. In 1987, Reg and Isabel retired to Qualicum Beach, where they lived for over 30 years. Reg was a pillar of strength for his family and will be missed by his daughters, Sandra Rowe (Chuck) and Pat Bumbray (Bill), his five grandchildren, Mike (Sara), Dr. Andrea, Dr. Hilary (Chris), Jennifer and Christopher, and his two great-grandsons, Charly and Thales. Donations can be made to Broadmead Care Society in honour of Reg's life.
