HELPARD, Lynn Raymond - Passed away peacefully, on December 28, 2023. Survived by his wife, Patricia Stephenson of Newcastle, ON; his daughter, Melanie Helpard (Dave Cudlip, 2020) of Montreal, QC; his sister, Elsbeth Yada (Shane Yada, 2016) of Victoria, BC; many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Alice Ethel Brown and Raymond Helpard, Halifax, NS; his sister, Ann and brother-in-law, The Honourable Fintan Aylward, St. John's, NL; sister, Colleen Abdullah, Mahone Bay, NS; and his former wife, Angela Sidor. Lynn was born in Halifax, NS, on May 9, 1939. He attended St. Mary's University in Halifax. During university, Lynn was enrolled in the University Naval Training Division; and so began his love of the sea. His career began in advertising at CFCF TV, Montreal. In the '60s, Lynn worked his way up through the ranks to be President of FMBJ Worldwide Advertising Agency. In the '80s, Lynn created and founded Helpard Publishing. He then moved to Orono, Ontario, to expand his publishing business. He was the founder and publisher of World of Wheels, Canadian Auto World, Plant & Garden, and numerous other publications. Lynn was a real car buff. He has driven just about everything, as well as owning several vintage cars, including his prize 1991 Rolls Royce Silver Spur. Lynn lived every moment to the fullest. His retirement summers were spent at his home in NS and on his sail boat, his winters were enjoyed in Florida. He had an incredible zest for life and enjoyed every conversation, every chance meeting, and every new friendship. Everyday was an opportunity for a new adventure to be appreciated and enjoyed with friends and family. The family would like to thank Dr. W. Lottering and the staff at Bowmanville Creek Residence for their care and kindness. Lynn's funeral will be held in late May at a date to be determined. A Catholic funeral will be at St. Francis of Assisi in Newcastle, followed by a celebration of his incredible life. Arrangements entrusted to Armstrong Funeral Home, celebration of life information will be available in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lynn may be made to Lakeridge Health Oshawa Foundation - Surgical Oncology. (The Toronto Star 06 Jan 2024)
