Born: 03 Jul 1938          Died: 17 Dec 2023

McADOO, George William Edgar - born on July 3, 1938, in southern Saskatchewan and a man of extraordinary talents and boundless creativity, departed from this world on December 17, 2023. His life was a journey marked by resilience, passion, and a profound love for the sea.

After completing his service in the Navy (1957-1962), George ventured to Ottawa, where he established a home on Moody Drive upon marrying. Both he and his wife found employment at Computing Devices of Canada. As the winds of career opportunities shifted, so did the McAdoo family, exploring different corners of the city.

George was a true artisan, a creator at heart. His hands molded exquisite clay models and crafted replicas of scallop draggers and various ships. He even built a small sailboat in the family basement, which became the vessel for countless sailing picnics along the Ottawa River, a cherished backdrop to family memories.
A fervent enthusiast of the maritime world, George seized the opportunity to venture into yacht chartering with a business partner. Together, they navigated a 65-foot yacht on trips to Expo 67 and across Lake Ontario. However, a fateful storm and the hands of nature left the yacht stranded on a sandbar, leading to its heartbreaking demise.

Undeterred, George embarked on another maritime journey, sailing a Cape Islander up the St Lawrence. The love for the ocean drew the McAdoo family to Shelburne, where George joined the crew of scallop draggers, immersing himself once again in the rhythm of the sea. Later, in Greenfield, he founded Lakeland Retreats and Campground.

In this coastal haven, he raised his children and erected the iconic round house, a geodesic dome that stood as a symbol of his inventor's spirit. George McAdoo's life was one of adventure, innovation, and the unwavering pursuit of his passions. In the late 70s George started a career at STENPRO and worked many years in various departments; he considers many of his coworkers to be family.

After the conclusion of his first marriage, George found new love and companionship with Kimberly, a woman who shared his zest for life and adventure. Together, they discovered a mutual passion for hypnotherapy and gardening. George and Kimberly's shared journey in hypnotherapy touched the lives of many, offering healing and insight to those they guided.

In their shared love for gardening, George and Kimberly cultivated not only plants but also a vibrant connection with nature. Their garden became a sanctuary—a place of growth, renewal, and shared dreams.

He leaves behind a legacy that extends beyond the shores of any sea—a legacy of a remarkable man, loving father, devoted grandfather, cherished husband, supportive brother, and true friend.

George will be greatly missed by his children Gina (Mike) Toronto, Ontario, Julie, Truro, Nova Scotia and David, Bridgewater, Nova Scotia; Grandchildren Rachel (Josh), Jesse, Hugh (Amy) and Tim; Great Grandsons Robyn and Grayson. Sister Bernice Sprague (Glen). Brother in-laws Tim and Don (Janet); Sister in-law Kitten (Larry). He will be missed by his many friends and extended family near and far. George is predeceased by his parents Joyce and Edgar McAdoo, first wife, Mary Corbett, and wife Kimbery.

As we bid farewell to George William Edgar McAdoo, may we find solace in the memories of a life well-lived and celebrate the enduring impact he had on those fortunate enough to share in his journey.

A celebration of George's life will be held at his home, 112 Sherri Lane, Beaverbank, from 1 to 3 Sunday May 26 , 2024 (Arbor Memorial)
