Died: 30 Apr 2023, Ottawa, Ontario

 

HAYES, Murray William - died peacefully at the Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre in Ottawa on April 30, 2023, at the age of 98. Born in Montreal on September 16, 1924, to Murray William Sr. and Dorothy (Mead) Hayes, Murray served in the Canadian navy during World War ll, and was a celebrated athlete in Montreal and at McGill in the late 1940s. He was inducted into the McGill Sports Hall of Fame in 1998. He and his beloved wife, Nancy (née Johnson), who died in May 2022, lived and raised their family in Dorval, and moved to Burlington, Ontario in 1979. Murray was a devoted husband and father, who cherished his family above all else.

 

Murray is survived by his loving children: Susan Brooks of Winchester MA, Robert Hayes of Burlington ON and Judith Hayes of Ottawa ON. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Scott (Erin) Brooks, Jennifer Brooks (Joel) Fontanarosa , Kate Brooks (Jay) Leach, Michael (Vanessa) Hayes and David (Danni) Hayes, as well as by his great grandchildren, Aven and Hayes Brooks, Will Fontanarosa, and Emmeline Leach.
