GENERAL, Walter Paul  (Wally) - With his loving family by his side, at the age of 80, Wally passed away at the QED, Halifax Infirmary site November 11, 2023 of COVID.

The son of the late Maxwell and Mildred (Miller) General, Wally was born in Hillsborough County, Florida and raised in Six Nations of the Grand River in Ohsweken, Ontario. A proud Oneida First Nations, Wally was a member of the Turtle Clan, representing the shifting of the earth and the cycles of the moon.

After attending Hagersville High Wally joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1963. During his 23 year career Chief Petty Officer (CPO2) General was deployed to many of Her Majesty's Ships and Land Bases. Upon retiring Wally dedicated a further 20 years to the Corps of Commissionaires at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport. Never one to settle, he continued to work at Treaty Gas (Millbrook First Nation) until finally, for the third time, retiring.

A father and husband, Wally was a perfect role model. The respect he held for women demonstrated to his daughters how women should be treated. The love of his life, his Queen, was his wife Diane. He and Diane love to travel by planes, trains and automobiles not ever letting the weather effect their time together. While spending time with family and friends was the thing Wally loved most, he also enjoyed his motorcycle and his guitars. He also could often be found building and fixing whenever the need (or just because) arose.

Wally was always a gentleman, never speaking ill of or judging another. As a proud member and volunteer of the Royal Canadian Legion in both Waverley (90) and Sackville (162) he was an avid dart player and enjoyed much camaraderie over the years. Wally was an active member of St John the Evangelist Church in Middle Sackville, serving in the choir and volunteering wherever he was needed.

Wally leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Diane (Shay) General and three beautiful daughters Christine General (Mike), Angela Sproule (Barry) and Paulette General. His beloved Grandchildren; Andrew Sproule (Kelsey), Rebecca Sproule and Jessica General-Knickle. His precious Great Grandchildren; Freya, Torin and Reyna Sproule. Sisters; Joanne Laforme (Wayne) and Donna Nieves (Felix). Sisters in law; Connie Shay, Reta Shay and brother in law Stephen Meldrum. Wally will also be remembered by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
