Brian Hugh Patterson

C.A.F. (Navy)

Died: 03 Nov 2023, Bible Hill, Nova Scotia

PATTERSON, Brian Hugh - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Brian Patterson, age 69, of Truro in Vimy Court Enhanced Care, Bible Hill on November 3, 2023. Surrounded by family, his passage was peaceful.

Born in Middleton to the late Leslie and Dorothy (Baldwin) Patterson, Brian grew up in Margaretsville, NS on the Bay of Fundy where, as a teenager, he spent many hours on the water, fishing with ‘the ole guys’. It truly was his passion as he reminisced of bygone days. He always claimed he knew exactly ‘where the fish were hiding’.

Brian proudly served with the Canadian Armed Forces (Navy) for 27 years, spending much of his time aboard several of the east coast ships as well as posts to various bases, including a stint with CFS Alert. Upon retirement from the regular force, he worked as a Reservist with the Cadets in CFNA Whitehorse and CFS Debert.

Retirement was peaceful for Brian and he certainly enjoyed his multiple gardens, tinkering with items in his ‘he-shed’ and relaxing with his boys, Dennis and Dukes.

Brian, known fondly in Truro as ‘Sailor’, loved anything that involved space and science fiction. A die-hard Trekkie, Captain Kirk and Stephen Hawking were his mentors and if he found a willing ear, he would try to educate you on the theories of time dilation and black holes. The idea of passage to another dimension fascinated him.

Brian will be profoundly missed by his wife, Heather (Cormier), Truro; daughters, Marla (Randy) Burke, Murray Siding; Dana (Adam White) Patterson, Bible Hill; son, Morgan (Katie) Patterson, Edmonton; grandchildren, Samantha, Kaydence and Kane; mother-in-law, Marcella Cormier, Summerside; brother-in-law, Ken (Diane) Cormier, Charlottetown; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by brothers, Earl (Mary Anne) Patterson, Brandon, Manitoba; Randy Patterson, Middleton; and sister, Elaine (Frank) Little, Greenwood.

Besides his parents, Brian was predeceased by sister, Anne Patterson and father-in-law, Paul Cormier.

We’d like to thank the staff at Vimy Court for their care of Brian during his short stay and especially for the comfort and compassion they provided him and the family during his final days.

Per Brian’s request, there will not be a visitation or service. There will be a family scattering ceremony at a later date. If so desired, donations in Brian’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society.
