HALEY, George - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved George Hayley. Age 91 years of Middle Sackville, passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2023 after battling a long illness of vascular disease & heart failure.

Born in Bonavista, Newfoundland on July 28, 1932; he was a son of the late Gilbert and Clara (Russell) Hayley.

Putting his family first and supporting everything his children did without ever missing a beat. His support ranged from coaching hockey to traveling to 100’s of hockey, lacrosse, ringette games and tournaments. He also travelled with his two daughters to parades and competitions for many years across Canada and the United States with Hayley’s Comets Parade & Show Corps (a baton twirling group started by his daughter Roxanne in 1979 and ran until 2005. He supported with equipment, logistics, moral support and even included his RV for transportation and housing at times. He provided positive reinforcement to the youth in the group along with his quick wit and sense of humor willing to participate with any shenanigans the children would play on him for kicks and giggles creating abundant memories for all. His greatest pleasure after his family and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren was making sure everyone had a good time. Numerous more happy times were made at his cottage in Caribou Island where he welcomed everyone. He would say bring a tent or a trailer and set up anywhere in the yard, enjoy the beautiful beach and surroundings. He loved getting clams and oysters on the beach and sharing them with all.

He served 20years from 1951-1971 with the Royal Canadian Navy and an additional 22 years as a Foreman for the Rigging shop at DND. He did not allow negativity to enter his space and it was nowhere in his vocabulary. He truly was the greatest Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather and now without doubt truly an angel continuing to look out over his family. His absence will leave a terrible void in our lives and he will be missed by all.

Left with countless loving memories are his devoted wife of 67 years Connie (Moore); children Kent (Elaine) Hayley of Hammonds Plains, Roxanne Conley (Tim) of Lower Sackville and Candace Hayley of Halifax; grandchildren Claire Filliter (Daniel), Adam Hayley (Jenny Blondin), Mitchell (Jennifer) Hayley, Reid Warner and Mya Warner; great grandchildren Mikayla, Courtney, Elly Beeswanger, Isabel Filliter, Sloane Hayley, Michael Blondin and Skylar Hayley.

Predeceased by siblings Burt, Rex, Frank, Evelyn and Robert.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place and visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm in Atlantic Funeral Homes, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville.
