Died: 25 Aug 2013, Baddeck, Victoria Co., Cape Breton, Nova Scotia

 

INGRAHAM, William Irad – 96, Margaree Valley/Shubenacadie/Milford Station, passed away peacefully August 25, 2013 at Alderwood Nursing Home, Baddeck where he received the most compassionate care from the wonderful staff working on the Bras D’Or Unit. Born in Braintree Massachusetts November 5th 1916, he was the youngest child of the late Alward and Grace (Steadman) Ingraham. He was predeceased by; Thelma (Lane) Ingraham, his loving wife of 61 years in March of this year. He spent much of his youth in his beloved Margaree Valley and after graduating with a BSc from Harvard University in 1938, he returned there to live. A Veteran of WW II, his experiences made him reluctant to discuss that distressing chapter in his life. After the war, he returned to University, graduating from St. Francis Xavier University with a BEd. He began his career in education. Never one to be idle, along with teaching, he raised chickens, was a honey producer, hobby farmer, strawberry grower and an amazing gardener. His happiest hours were spent outdoors exploring, picking berries and working the land. Billy’s children and grandchildren will be left with the wonderful memories of his gifted storytelling and the many exciting adventures he took them on. He is survived by his children Janet (Dave) Paul, Shubenacadie; Susan (Brian) Konopski, Winnipeg; Jack (Letty) Ingraham, Carvel; Annie Ingraham, Cobble Hill; Alice (Brian) MacDonald, Windsor Jct; Wendy (John) Dixon, Vancouver; Sheryl (Wayne Boudreau) Ingraham, Durham; Dana Ingraham, Margaree Valley and April (John Mott) Ingraham, Summerland. Also surviving are grandchildren Elizabeth Harris, Shubenacadie; Phillip (Natalie) Harris, Bedford; Maura (Dietrich) Pajonk, Vancouver; Daniel and Christopher Ingraham, Halifax; Brandie Ingraham, Dartmouth; Damien and Gabriel Haince, Windsor Jct; Tiffany (Michael) Paul Osborne, Wainwright; Michael Paul, Shubenacadie; Heather and Shelby Konopski, Winnipeg; Joshua and Katrina Naesgaard, Cobble Hill; Kieran Boudreau, Durham; Angelica and Kathleen Dixon, Vancouver; Sylvia and Helena Mott, Summerland as well as chosen granddaughter Meghan (Gil) Richard, great grandchildren Brianna, Kian and Austin Harris; Levi and Kaci Harris and great- great-grandchildren Brooklyn Harris and Kilei Weatherbee and sister-in-law, Edena Stevenson and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was predeceased by twin sisters Fern (Jules) Bonet and Helen (Willem) Pinard; brother Dr. Hollis (Helena) Ingraham, son-in-law Robert Naesgaard, infant grandson Peter Ingraham. Burial and Celebration of life will be early next summer. Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Funeral Co- operative, Margaree Valley.
