COREY, James Purcell (Jim)  - Entered into rest at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, on Monday, August 28, 2023. Jim Corey of Picton, passed away at the age of 78. Beloved husband of M. Jane (nee Bond), father of Matthew (Allison) of Kingston, Luke (Chloe) of Rochester, Minnesota, and Jimmy (Sabrina) of Picton. Grandfather of Scarlett, Ava and Jack. Predeceased by his parents Bud and Irene Corey of Calgary, AB and his brothers Robert “Tex” and Jack.

 

Jim was a man of many life experiences from Boy Seaman at age 16 in the Royal Canadian Navy, Nanaimo and Cornwallis, to the Oil Fields in BC & NWT, to the Princess Patricia Cruise Ship between Vancouver and Alaska. Jim graduated from Mount Royal College/University in Calgary from the school of Broadcasting. His career started at CKCK in Regina, to the early days of City TV in Toronto, to 20 years at ITV in Edmonton as an Audio Technician where his highlights included working on Oilers Hockey games, concerts, SCTV and in charge of International Sound for the ’88 Calgary Winter Olympics, and later the Commonwealth Games in Victoria.

 

The Corey family moved to Picton where he was heavily involved in his sons’ sports activities, as well as being a Marshall/Starter at the Picton Golf & Country Club. He and Jane wintered for 15 seasons in St. Augustine, Florida. Jim fought valiantly, but complications from diabetes and dementia eventually won out.

 

Mr. Corey rested at Rushnell Funeral Homes - Picton Chapel, 33 Main Street (613-476-2450). In keeping with Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Jim was a westerner at heart, and as such, he will be returned to his roots in Alberta. If desired, donations to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
