In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SHATFORD, Glen Avard - 79, Fox Point, died Saturday at home. Born in Fox Point, he was a son of the late Oliver and Flora (Veinot) Shatford. He fished on the Grand Banks. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Butler Branch, Chester. For many years he worked on tug boats in Halifax Harbour. He worked with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires in Halifax and CFS Mill Cove. He was active in the community. He represented Distinct 2 for 23 years in Chester Municipal Council. He served on most of the major committees in the county. He is survived by his wife, Elsie; a brother, Percy, Mill Cove; three sisters, Ena Harnish, Birchy Head; Grace (Mrs. Arthur Cahill), Tantallon; Audrey (Mrs. Charles Hume), Chester. He was predeceased by a long-time companion, Joyce Harnish; two brothers, George, Blaine; two sisters, Ola, Jessie; a half-sister, Wilma. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mill Cove Baptist Church, Rev. Barry Dixon officiating. Burial will be in the Baptist Cemetery, Fox Point. (The Halifax Chronicle-Herald Mon., 03 Feb 1992)
Glen's brothers, George Shatford and Henry Blain Shatford also served in the Navy. His brother Percy Shatford served in the Halifax Rifles.
