HUBBARD, Cecelia - The passing of Retired Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Cecelia Hubbard of Blacks Harbour NB occurred peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital, on June 28, 2023. Born at Honeydale, NB, on January 14,1944, she was a daughter of the late Delang and Marguerite (McLaughlin) Hubbard. A loving sister and aunt, she is survived by brothers: John Hubbard of ON and Joseph "Joe" (Angela) Hubbard of Saint John NB, as well as several nieces nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters: Donna Hubbard, Linda Greenlaw, Gloria Hubbard, step sisters; Gladys Boles, Jean Cook, Irene Leslie, Catherine Reynard, Betty Collett and Connie Kendall. bothers: Harry (BUD) and Dolphy Hubbard, Jarvis Wilson, Austin and Wilfred McLaughlin and nephew Irving Greenlaw.
Cecelia Graduated from Blacks Harbour High School in the class if 1962. Following her graduation, she joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1963, where she became an Oceanographer for the Department of National Defense. In her 25 years of service, she rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer 1st Class, until her retirement in 1988. Cecelia was an avid gardener and enjoyed maintaining her lawn and property in Blacks Harbour, so it was always "ship shape". She also mowed other lawns for her neighbors and other seniors in her community as well as taking the time to provide transportation to seniors to wherever they needed to be. She also enjoyed and loved when the children came to visit her, especially her buddy Gavin. She was very community minded and will be missed by her family, friends, and neighbors.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home (506-755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. A time of honoring and remembering Cecelia will be held at the St. George Funeral Home on Friday, July 7, 2023 from 2-4 PM.
