FARMER, Hector (Hec) - 90 of Dartmouth , passed away quietly surrounded by his family on September 4, 2011 at Camp Hill Veterans Hospital Halifax, his home for the past four and a half years.

 

Hector was born to Hector and Christina (nee Barrie) on March 26, 1921 in Dundee Scotland immigrating to Canada at the age of six settling first in Toronto and later moving to Dartmouth.

 

He was predeceased by his wife Jean (nee Maillette) of Tignish PEI and his three brothers Harry, Billy, Jimmy and sister Phyllis. He is survived by his sister Christina Fraser, Dartmouth and his children Christina Annand (Kirk) Halifax , David (Barb) Lower Sackville, Stephen Calgary, Kenny (June) Dartmouth and Patrick (Maureen) Dartmouth. He is also survived by grandchildren Tim, Greg, Thomas, Josh, Jan, Michael (Krista), Brenna, Allison and three great grandchildren Krysten, Jenna and Lucas.

 

Hector joined the Naval Reserves in 1937 and when war broke, out he transferred into active service for the duration of the war. Post war he enjoyed a long career in the Public Service (NAD) retiring in 1987. He was an active member of the Legion and appreciated all their efforts on behalf of veterans during his stay in Camp Hill.

 

The family would like to say a special word of thanks to Hector’s caregivers on 6th Floor West and Pub staff for the care and love they provided during his tenure there and their tolerance, and sometimes enjoyment, for his yodeling and sense of humour. He thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated his time in their care.

 

At his request there will be no service. A family memorial will be held at a later date. Internment will be in Tignish, PEI next to his beloved wife of 57 years.

 

Donations may be made to the QEII Foundation, the Royal Canadian Legion, or charity of choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street. (Dartmouth Funeral Home)
