DORRINGTON, James W. - It is with sadness we announce the passing of ‘Jim’ on December 14, 2022 while in the QEII Hospital in Halifax. He has gone to the arms of his beloved wife and best friend Dorothy (Long) who predeceased him on June 27, 2021. Jim was also predeceased by his parents James Duncan and Helen Frances (Routley) Dorrington and brother Paul of Peterborough, ON. Jim is survived by his sister Beth Franklin, Peterborough, brother-in-law Frank Long, Kingston, ON and sisters-in-law Rita (Frank) Pottie, Dartmouth and Bette MacIsaac, Wilmot, NS. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his “special girls” Murphy Apperson, Keltie Apperson and Courtney Robinson.

Jim left his family home in Peterborough in 1959 to join the Navy. He served for 25 years mainly as the Administrative Assistant to the Admiral – Atlantic. Besides Halifax, he served in Bermuda and with NATO during Canada’s leadership. While serving in Halifax, he met his soul mate and best friend, Dorothy (Dot), whom he married in 1975 not long after they met. He was an avid reader especially Biographies, History and POLITICS which he loved to ‘debate’. His love of cooking made him the go to ‘Chef’ for he and Dot’s social life at home and always took over the kitchen on their visits to Wilmot over many years. He loved his time with his buddies at the Oasis, and will be sadly missed by all, especially Norm who he held in high regard. He also had a special friendship with Nancy Doty, who was always ready to discuss politics across the world, current events and any other topics of current day interest with her well read friend.

A private family service will be held on Saturday, May 27th followed by a get together reception at 1:00 p.m. at the Oasis in Halifax for family and invited close friends of Jim.
