MEIKLE, John Howard - Passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital, after a long battle with lung disease. Survived by his loving partner of 35 years, Helen Dye, his mother, Fay Meikle (age 100), cousins and many friends. He was a veteran of WWII and employed from 1958 with the Department of Fisheries at the Pacific Biological Station in Nanaimo. In 1971 the Pacific Oceanographic Group was transferred to the West Vancouver Laboratory, where he and Helen met. Although he was transferred to the Institute of Ocean Sciences in 1973, he commuted to Vancouver every weekend for 12 years until he took early retirement in 1985. John and Helen enjoyed many travels around the world, including Africa, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand and cruises including the Caribbean, Alaska, Amazon and Costa Rica until his health declined in the late 90's. No service by request. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the BC Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
