In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HARVEY, Willis Stanley - A former resident of Halifax, Montreal and Oakville, Willis died peacefully on Monday May 1, 2023 at Billings Court Manor, Burlington, ON. Born in Halifax, NS on November 25, 1923, the younger son of Louva (Huntley) and Lorimer Harvey. Surviving are his sons Stan (Candace) of Burlington, ON and Don (Liz) of Oakville, ON; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren - Nicholas (Sandra, Ronan, Avi) Harvey of Inverhuron, ON, Deanna (Josh, Amelia, Valerie, Walter) MacDougall of Delaware, ON, Evan (Melanie, Scott, Aaron, Graham) Harvey of Scarborough, ON, Jessica Harvey of Oakville and Sarah Harvey (Alex) of Burlington, ON. Fondly remembered as "Uncle Billy" by his nephew Darrell (Vicki, Brenden, Conlin) Harvey of Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia. Predeceased by the love of his life for 72 years Nita Nathalie (Geizer) Harvey, and his brother Eugene Harvey of Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia. Will was a past active member of Baptist, Presbyterian and United Church of Canada congregations. During WWII he was in the Navy as a torpedo man, stationed out of Halifax, NS. Dad had various interests - volunteering with Nita at the Oakville Syl Apps Youth Centre (a part of the youth justice system), past president & designer of the present Chester Golf Course, keen candlestick bowler, champion cribbage player, an avid golfer and loved being with his grandchildren. His sense of humour was something to behold. Willis had various careers in his life, mostly in the architectural and building insulation industries, before retiring from building supply management. He found great joy in designing the houses that he and Nita lived in. Their pride and joy was their home that overlooked the ocean on Haddon Hill in Chester, Nova Scotia. For 13 years Will was a Palliative Care volunteer at Camp Hill Veterans Memorial Building in Halifax, NS. No service by his request. Cremation has taken place. Private interment of ashes in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Sackville, NS will take place at a later date. The family are very grateful to all of the staff at Billings Court Manor for their care and concern throughout the years he lived there. Grampy was the keeper of Fred (either an imaginary fly or a spider), tickler of grandkids, and no one could wind the grandkids up better than him! We shall all miss you, Grampy.
