In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
YOUNG, George Clifford - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, George Clifford Young, predeceased by his loving wife, Jackie in 2004. He passed away peacefully at home with his family on August 18th 2009, in his 74th year. He will be sorely missed by his sons Randy (Fiona), Brett, Dean (Nicole) and daughter-in-law, Carolyn. He will also be missed by his precious granddaughters, Ashley and Kennedy (& baby to be), his sister Joyce (Don) in Thunder Bay and other close family members and friends. Dad fought a brave battle with cancer while maintaining a good quality of life, right until the last month, working and golfing when he wanted. He enjoyed his family time more than anything and spent a great deal of time at family events and dinners. A fiercely loyal and independent man one could always count on to put others first. Dad spent 36 years in the Canadian Navy serving off the coast of Vietnam during the war and many other deployments until he retired as the 4 Squadron Chief in 1989. He and Jackie were long time members of Gorge Vale Golf Club and spent a lot of time golfing and travelling together. A very special thank you to the Cancer Society and Palliative Care team, you really are special people. It is your knowledge and dedication that allowed Dad to have a quality of life that was good enough to allow him to do all of the things that were important to him. A special mention to the coworkers and friends Dad had at Turner Dental Labs. You were his extended family and supported and encouraged him every step of the way. He spoke of you often and we thank you all. As Dad was a practical and private man he did not wish to have a service. Flowers are gratefully declined and anyone wishing to may make a donation to the Cancer Society, Red Cross or Victoria Hospice. (Victoria Times Colonist 22 Aug 2009)
