In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
BROWN, Robert Charles Alfred - With sadness we announce the death of Robert (Bob) on March 29, 2023; he was 83. He is predeceased by his wife, Florence (Flo), (nee Nightingale), and his parents, William Sylvester (Les) and Margurite (Peggy) (nee Fleming). Bob will be missed by his children, Sheila (Michael), Paul (Milton) and David (Brenda) and his grandchildren, Cecile (Richard), Gabriel, Esther, Sophia, Ethan and Melissa. He will also be missed by his brother, William James (Bill) Brown, his wife, Jeanne and their son, William (Bill) (Sandra). Bob was born in Winnipeg on March 5, 1940. He completed a B.Sc. at the University of Manitoba. He spent his summers in Halifax as part of the University Naval Training Division (UNTD) where he met his future wife, Florence. They were married on August 5, 1962. Bob became a Chartered Accountant and worked at the Winnipeg Parts Depot of the Ford Motor Company until 1968 when he was transferred to the Parts Depot in Bramalea. In 1970, he took a position in Dealer Development at Ford's Central Office Building in Oakville. He began his new assignment by teaching himself computer programming and became a consulted regional expert on dealer development computer issues. Bob worked at Ford for 33 years until his retirement in 2000. In 1973, Bob and Flo moved to Burlington where they raised their family. They were active members of St. Raphael Roman Catholic Parish, participating in the Small Group and Cursillo movements. Music was always a part of Bob's life: as a teen, he played the Hawaiian guitar and, as an adult, he learned to play the clarinet and joined the Burlington Concert Band. He supported the Burlington Junior Red Coats and the Teen Tour Band as a chaperone and a proud father, watching his sons march in both bands. Bob always enjoyed working on manual labour projects from landscaping to carpentry. For many years after Flo died in 2003, Bob travelled extensively with his travel companion, Marlene. In 2017, Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease and in 2019 he moved to La Salle Park Retirement Residence. Then, in 2021, he moved to Shalom Village Long Term Care Facility. The family would like to thank the staff at both locations for their care of Bob. A visitation will be held at Smith's Funeral Home in Burlington, 1167 Guelph Line, on Monday, April 3, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. with prayers and memorial reflections from 8:00 to 9:00 pm.
