Albert Edward (Bert) Tebbenham

Born: 1914, Port Arthur, Ontario

 

Died: 13 Mar 2001, Thunder Bay, Ontario

 

TEBBENHAM, Albert Edward (Bert) - age 87 years, resident of 201 South Court Street, passed away unexpectedly in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital - McKellar on Tuesday, March 13th, 2001 as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Born in Port Arthur, he was a lifetime resident. In his early years, Bert was employed by the Port Arthur Brewery and latterly as a city transit driver for thirty eight years - initially with street cars to the present day bus service, retiring in 1979. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Port Arthur Branch #5. Bert enjoyed camping with his family out at One Island Lake, was an avid curler with the 'Go Slow Curlers' and attended the World Curling Competition in Glasgow, Scotland in March, 2000, - and he especially enjoyed playing his banjo and entertaining at seniors and social gatherings. Bert is survived by his wife Violet; three sons: Bob (Pat) of Coquitlam, BC, Don (Teresa) of Thunder Bay, Gordon (Sherry) of Athabaska, AB; daughter Judy (Mike) Skinner of White Rock, BC, and sons Douglas (Viola) Smith of Winnipeg, MB, Greg Smith of St. Paul's River, PQ, Larry (Candace) Smith of Kingston; eight grandchildren: Don and Lynn, Laura and Suzanne, Tina and Jeff, Brittany and Justin; numerous great-grandchildren; brother Bill (Doris) and sister Dolly Foulds both of Thunder Bay. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Bert was predeceased by his parents Albert and Elizabeth; sister Mary Winterburn and granddaughter Donna Tebbenham. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 17th at 2:00 p.m. inthe Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, officiated by Canon David Bradford of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church, followed by Port Arthur Branch #5 Royal Canadian Legion Memorial Service. Cremation will then take place with Private interment in the Military Plot, Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. . in the Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Bert's memory to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #5 Building Fund or charity of choice. He will be long remembered as the Candyman. Bert's brother George William Tebbenham also served in the RCNVR during the Second World War.
