SARGEANT, Reginald Stanley - Peacefully and valiantly, Reg went to meet Edith, on her birthday, September 17. He was born in Estevan, SK on October 21, 1914. The family moved to Winnipeg and resided in Elmwood. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Edith on March 18, 1997, brother George in 1995, and brother Bill. Reg is survived by his sons, Ken (Carol, Kevin & Melinda, Katherine) Doug (Pat & Stacey) brother Ernest (Irene) from Brockville, ON; and many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States. Reg was very proud of his "navy days" and was a sailor till the day he died. He was employed by the T. Eaton Company for 43 years, starting out candling eggs and progressing to the position of Fire Inspector - another accomplishment for which he was very proud. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, St. James Branch 4; and the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans, Unit 283 - where he spent most Saturday afternoons at the meat draw. Immediately after winning a prize, he would drive over to son Dougs to drop off "Sunday dinner". Reg spent the week prior to being hospitalized in Victoria visiting Ken and Carol, Kevin and Melinda and Katherine. In December 1999, he took his family on a Caribbean cruise - where an unforgettable time was had by all! We would like to thank the doctors and staff, 2 South, at the Grace hospital for helping to ease his last voyage. We appreciated your sensitivity and caring, and also the support you provided to the family. We would also like to thank Uncle Ernie for spending the last week with him. Flowers graciously declined. Please make a donation, in memory of Reg and Edith Sargeant, to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Dr., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 3M7 or the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception for family and friends will follow.
