HAWKYARD, Charles Harry - passed away at John Joseph Place in Owen Sound, on Wednesday, November 1st, 2017, at the age of 91 years. Loving husband of Mary Hawkyard (nee Newman) for 47 years. Caring father of Drew Hawkyard (Kathy), of Burlington and Paul Hawkyard (Joanne) and their son, David, of Miramichi, NB. Dear brother of Bill Hawkyard (Joyce), of Etobicoke. Uncle Harry will be fondly remembered by his nieces, Joyce Ford, Judy McGuire, Marianne Tsuvinin and his nephews, Bob Boyd, Harry Nolan, Robert Grime, Richard and Tim Hawkyard and Gary and Steven Shaw. Predeceased by his parents, Rowland and Norah Hawkyard (nee Haydon); his sisters, Kathleen Grime, Marjorie Boyd, Shirley Nolan and Poppy Ford; his brother, Frank Hawkyard; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Shaw; his mother-in-law, Hester Newman. Harry was a “people person” who was a loyal friend to many and was never without a smile. At 17 years he joined the RCNVR and was engaged in convoy duty on the Corvette “Rockcliffe” during the Battle of the North Atlantic from 1943 – 1945.

 

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6, Owen Sound will hold a Private Memorial Service at the Legion on Tuesday, November 7th, 2017. If so desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice as an expression of sympathy and may be made through the BRIAN E.
