Died: 29 Jan 2023, Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia

 

MURCHY, Lloyd Robert - Age 88 of Dartmouth, passed away January 29, 2023, in Ocean View Continuing Care, Eastern Passage. Born August 26, 1934, in Murchyville, N.S., he was a son of the late Earl and Elizabeth (Howe) Murchy. Lloyd was a great-great grandson of the late Hon. Joseph Howe, (Premier of N.S.) and a King Scout during the reign of King George VI. In 1952 Lloyd joined the RCN serving on several ships as an Instrumentation Engineer before retiring from the Navy in 1963. He married Norma Patricia “Pat” Hanson September 28, 1956. His career in teaching and management took him from Labrador to Newfoundland and finally back to Halifax. Lloyd joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1955. He served as a Director of the Halifax County Seniors’ Council – Zone 15. Lloyd bred, raised and showed pure bred dogs, loved to play the piano, Cribbage, 45’s and Bridge. He enjoyed reading, fly fishing, hunting and camping. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Patricia “Pat”; daughter, Wendy; 3 grandchildren, Ginny, Ryan, and Sarah; and 3 great-granddaughters, Chloe, Lilly and Addison; brother-in-law, Dale (Bunnie); and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by son, Christopher; brothers, James and Elgin; sisters, Edith, Bessie, Margaret, Pearl, Lillian; and in-laws, Norman and Dolly Hanson. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m., Friday, February 24, in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, February 25, in Atlantic Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only and donations in Lloyd’s name may be made to Ocean View Continuing Care Recreation Dept. (The Saltwire Network 04 Feb 2023)
